Early Morning Fire In The West End

At 05:23 on Wednesday morning Providence fire alarm dispatched Engine's 8,14,3 Ladder's 2&6 Special Hazards and Battalion 2 to California Liquors at 84 Union Avenue for smoke coming from the building. Members from the Messier Street firehouse three blocks away were greeted with a smoke condition as companies responded and arrived on scene with fire in a large 3.5 story residential over commercial and began making entry via the rear. Battalion 2 arrived and special called an additional 1&1 over the working fire which consisted of Engine 11 (safety) Ladder 5 (fast) Engine 5/Air Supply & Rescue's 2&6 Engine 6 and Ladder 1 were dispatched as the special call. Heavy fire on floor one extended into the second floor which was split up into multiple apartments and an additional Engine and Ladder was special called and staged at the Messier Street station Engine 10 & ladder 4 were dispatched and later put to work while Engine 2 and Ladder 7 relocated to the Broad Street firehouse. Members stretched multiple lines and started to make progress about a half hour in with a extensive overhaul operation remaining. One occupant was treated for smoke inhalation and one firefighter was evaluated with injuries of unknown extent during overhaul, the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the fire prevention office. The recall was sounded at 07:48.
