Well Involved Dwelling In Woonsocket

On Thursday Afternoon Woonsocket firefighters responded on multiple calls reporting a structure fire at 261 Summer Street. First arriving companies had a well involved first floor with fire rapidly extending upwards on side 1 to all floors and the attic and a second alarm was transmitted. An aggressive interior attack was initiated on the 2.5 story occupied wood frame dwelling but due to fire progression and deteriorating conditions on the interior incident command ordered the evacuation switching to a defensive operation. A third alarm was struck to bring in additional out of town crews for manpower on scene or station coverage. Crews worked for about an hour and a half on this stubborn fire which traveled into the attic area and thru the roof at one point. No injuries were reported the fire is believed to have been started by children but is still under investigation.
