Overnight Working Fire In Pawtucket

At 00:50 fire alarm dispatched crews to a reported mattress fire at 575 Broadway at Locust Street. Firefighter Maher the officer of Engine 2 reported a Working Fire from a distance due to a heavy smoke condition banking down across the street visible from Central Avenue, On arrival heavy smoke and fire vented from side one & two of a three story occupied wood frame building. Firefighters Maher & Woodside (Engine 2) stretched lines into the heavily involved third floor apartment while Ladder 2 set up and vented the roof. A additional Engine was Special Called over the working fire assignment (Engine 3) requiring mutual aid to back fill empty stations. Additional lines were stretched and a truck company forced entry to check for extension to the floor below as fire vented from the vent hole. The Heavy was knocked down in about twenty minutes and a extensive overhaul operation was started. The buildings occupant was assisted by red cross who was on scene to provide food and shelter, two firefighters were transported to memorial hospital for minor injuries The Recall was sounded at 02:43 with fire prevention still on scene to investigate another great stop by Pawtucket Firefighters!
